Nikolay Krisochenko

Biography

Nikolay Krisochenko was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1942 into a family rich in artistic and intellectual tradition. His grandfather was a well-respected artist, writer and mathematician. Nikolay's own father, Anatoly, and his mother, Nina are well-known in their own right as artists of extraordinary talent and skill. Their sons have followed in their footsteps.
After years of study at the School of Art in Kiev, and graduation from the prestigious Academy of Art, Nikolay worked as a graphic artist and art editor in a publishing house. Like his father and brother, Nikolay's broad and intense training allow him the flexibility to paint in any style and medium he chooses. His exquisite portraiture captures fine details and expresses the intangible spiritual qualities of the subject. Nikolay's own delight with the out-of-doors and the light in the natural world find expression in his landscapes in both impressionistic and realistic terms.
Nikolay's works can be found on display in his home country and abroad, and as a celebration of his twentieth anniversary as a serious artist, the Svetlitsky Museum of Kiev featured his creations in a special exhibition. He has exhibited paintings in California and Germany, as well as having current works at the home of another famous Russian artist, Nikolai Feshin in Taos, New Mexico. He recently showed a number of his paintings at the first Ukrainian Arts Festival in Texas, and was able to attend the installation of two of his family's jointly produced works at the Holocaust Museum of El Paso, Texas: a painting of the monument to the 200,000 Jews who were massacred in the ravine at Babi Yar (Ukraine), and a portrait of the museum's greatest patron. Nikolay and his father and brother often collaborate on paintings, each bringing to the work his own talent and vision in a creative partnership rarely seen among great artists.
